WeGovern Institute holds Pilot Seminar on the Magna Carta of Women in Brgy. Daniel Fajardo, Las Pinas City


The Working for Empowerment and Good Governance Institute, Inc. (WeGovern Institute) sucessfully held its pilot seminar on the Magna Carta of Women on March 5, 2011 in Barangay Daniel Fajardo, Las Pinas City.


The seminar, which was conducted in time for the centennial celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, was attended by 50 barangay officials and community leaders. Among the speakers during the seminar were WeGovern Institute’s Board of Trustees president and former Gabriela Women’s Party representative Liza Maza, who discussed the political situation in the country and the political rights of women under the Magna Carta of Women. EnGender Rights executive director and women’s rights advocate Atty. Clara Padilla, on the other hand, discussed the legal and technical aspects of law, as well as the national and international instruments that protect and promote the rights and welfare of women.


The Magna Carta of Women is a comprehensive women’s rights law recently signed into law seeking to eliminate discrimination against Filipino women by recognizing, protecting, fulfilling and promoting their rights, especially those in the marginalized sectors.
